Broadmeadow Mines, Queensland

Broadmeadow Mine is a longwall underground steelmaking coal operation located approximately 34 kilometres north of Moranbah in Queensland's Bowen Basin on the traditional lands of the Barada Barna people. The mine forms part of BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA), the 50:50 joint venture between BHP and Mitsubishi Development. Steelmaking coal from Broadmeadow is processed jointly with coal from the nearby Goonyella Riverside operation.

This steelmaking coal is used to make steel for infrastructure, housing, transport and renewable energy development around the world. As part of BMA's integrated steelmaking coal business, the operation helps supply the materials needed for modern life and supports customers across global steel supply chains.

Together with BMA's other Bowen Basin mines and the Hay Point Coal Terminal, Broadmeadow is part of an integrated supply chain that connects Queensland steelmaking coal to customers around the world. Hay Point is one of Australia's largest coal export terminals, with the capacity to handle more than 55 million tonnes of steelmaking coal exports each year.

We work with Traditional Owners and regional partners to create long-term value in the communities where we operate. BMA and the Barada Barna Aboriginal Corporation have entered into a Native Title Project Agreement covering BMA's Bowen Basin operations, including Broadmeadow. The agreement supports opportunities in employment, education, training and business development, helping create benefits for current and future generations. The agreement also supports opportunities for Barada Barna people to strengthen connections to Country and participate in economic and community development initiatives.
