In response to recent bushfire events in Western Australia, BHP Billiton Sustainable Communities (BSC) has donated A$250,000 to assist affected communities in the Waroona region.
The donation to the Lord Mayor’s Distress Relief Fund will provide assistance to impacted communities to re-establish themselves following this disaster.
BHP Billiton Chief Public Affairs Officer, Tony Cudmore said, “The last twelve months have seen a number of devastating bush fires throughout Australia, with significant impacts on families, communities and the environment.
“Last year, BSC was able to assist those affected by fires in Esperance, Western Australia and Pinery, South Australia through donations totaling A$500,000.”
“Through the Waroona BSC donation, BHP Billiton is pleased to be able to support the community on their road to recovery.
“These communities have a particular connection to BHP Billiton with a number of our employees, their friends and families directly and indirectly affected by the destruction,” Mr Cudmore said.
BHP Billiton Sustainable Communities is a charity established by BHP Billiton as part of its social investment program.
