Supporting local Indigenous businesses BHPs Local Buying Program

Brothers of the Brush have been engaged to do painting and repair work at Balmoral Homestead as part of BHP’s Local Buying Program.

Established 35 years ago and based in Medowie NSW, Brothers of the Brush is family run and Indigenous-owned.

Despite the fact they haven’t worked on a mine site before, they’re picking up the requirements really quickly since starting the work a few weeks ago, Principal Indigenous Procurement Carla O’Brien said.

‘This engagement is a great example of positive engagement with Indigenous business through BHP’s Local Buying program,’ Carla said.

‘There’s a been a really positive outcome here. Brothers of the Brush are working really well.’

Owner of the business Craig Donnelly said the team consists of 4-5 people, including his Dad and little brother, Damien. Their work includes painting, preparation and sealing of the exterior. They pride themselves on their attention to detail, such as stripping the paint off the latches to the louvres after discovering they are brass.

Brothers of the Brush have completed a wide range of projects across many different locations.

These include Muswellbrook TAFE, Gilgandra Library, Avoca Bowling Club and Bunnings Dubbo.

Our Local Buying Program ties into two of our social values: Indigenous partnerships and thriving and empowered communities.
