Update
With enormous pride, Team Jansen topped the leader board this year for Movember, raising over CAD$70,000 for the cause and far surpassing their target.
For Maury Simoneau, who was born and raised in the province and has been part of the Jansen team for 11 years, supporting Movember is personal.
“Like so many others, my family has been personally touched by cancer and men’s health issues in general,” Maury said. “It’s why there’s such passion and focus across BHP every year in support of Movember because it’s something that affects us all.”
“We always try to come back bigger and better every year but to knock it out the park like this just makes us so proud and grateful for everyone’s generosity.”
“2023… let’s go, let’s Mo!”
Over the years, BHP has shown its support for Movember in some big ways. Whether it’s giant moustaches lighting up the Perth skyline or adorning ships bound for Asia, our teams take supporting men's health and awareness seriously.
In Canada, it doesn’t get much bigger than hockey. So while it may be cold outside, that didn't stop things from heating up in the rink in a friendly charity match made up of teams from the Jansen potash project and our construction partners (collectively known as Team Jansen).
Now into its fourth year, the event draws big crowds in LeRoy, Saskatchewan, which neighbours the Jansen site.
Movember originated in Australia in 2003 but people around the world have embraced the annual fundraiser and given it a unique local flavour. Canada is no exception and in addition to their signature hockey game, Team Jansen this year held a moustache shave-off, joined in a global fitness challenge and created a platform for open discussion about men’s health and wellness.
“Movember activities often have a sense of fun and adventure and that’s important because it gives us the opportunity to talk openly about things that matter,” Maury continued. “We’ve seen that time and again across our Potash team and it’s made a big difference.”
BHP is the largest corporate supporter of the Movember Foundation globally and this year 73 teams from across the company led the charge on fundraising during November. With enormous pride, Team Jansen is in striking distance of topping the leader board this year raising approximately CAD$50,000 for the cause.
“We always try to come back bigger and better every year but to knock it out the park like this just makes us so proud and grateful for everyone’s generosity.” Maury said. “2023… let’s go, let’s Mo!”
