CSIRO is helping us find out what the Hedland and Newman community think about BHP.

This project involves getting regular feedback on the views of people in our community through quarterly pulse surveys.

For every survey completed a donation is made to a local not-for-profit community group. To date, more than $19,000 worth of donations have been unlocked for grass-root community groups around Australia.

Project Leader for CSIRO, Dr Kieren Moffat said joining and participating in Local Voices is a way for the community to be heard by BHP about the challenges and concerns they have.

“All surveys undertaken by CSIRO are confidential and no personal information is shared with BHP,” Dr Moffat said.

“We aim to ensure a diverse sample of community members are represented in the program and new participants are welcome at any time.”

CSIRO Local Voices is a way to help communities engage with companies that operate alongside them.

The approach allows a dynamic interaction between company and community that aims to increase understanding on all sides, build trust and strengthen relationships for better community outcomes.

Once registered, participants automatically receive an invitation to participate every quarter.

The results from all the surveys undertaken to date, including community responses regarding COVID-19 collected during April, May and June 2020 are also available on the Local Voices Website.
