Meet Brenda, Principal Operations Service Management in our Technology team, and one-eyed Eagles supporter. She has just celebrated the momentous milestone of 25 years of service.

Brenda served nine years in the Royal Australian Air Force before joining BHP in 1995. 

One of her first projects was the deployment of the first multifunction devices (photocopiers) to all WA Iron Ore sites. She also managed the transition of BHP’s fleet of analogue phones over to digital phones. 

Throughout her tenure, Brenda has seen not only huge changes in technology, but also in the structure of her department, where she has gone from a team of 10-15 people in the Iron Ore Asset IT team to a global Technology team of more than 1500.

Brenda says she feeIs very fortunate with her career at BHP. She has had the opportunity to change roles many times and been seconded to work on many exciting projects.  A highlight of her career was moving to Singapore for 6 months in 2013 to work on a BHP project. 

“I have loved being able to learn new things and build upon my skills and work with a lot of great people, I believe this is what has kept me grounded and engaged.”

Brenda currently works in the Technology Enterprise & Global Operations Service Management Team based in Perth. She is responsible for the Service Design and Transition to Operations process, which ensures that all new or modified technology services are rolled out with a consistent approach.  Brenda spent 7 months during Covid systemising the process into ServiceNow, all from her home office!

Brenda is a much-loved and valued member of the Technology team and this is reflected in her can-do and people-focussed attitude.

“Teamwork is very important to me and I appreciate and respect the views of others.  Everybody has something to input, given the opportunity.”

And when she’s not at work, you’ll probably find Brenda barracking for her beloved Eagles or planning her next travel adventure with her partner of 28 years.  

She is also a very proud Aunty and has enjoyed supporting and guiding her niece and nephew as they’ve entered the workforce and progressed in their careers.

And her advice for those starting their career in the mining industry?

“The sky’s the limit; there are endless opportunities, put your best foot forward, work hard and doors will open.”
