It's Tanya and Grant 'Thorpey' Thorpe's passion for people that's seen their careers skyrocket at BHP.

Both recently promoted to Supervisors as part of the Operations Services (OS) team in Central Queensland - the husband-wife duo said they're excited to dive into their new roles.

"We've always had a passion for people, and we're proud to be part of the OS culture that champions diversity, inclusion, safety and work-life balance," Tanya said.

"Since joining the industry 12 years ago, we've both seen mining progress to become a family-friendly career choice.

"Seeing our crews develop in their roles, and hit professional and personal milestones will be a highlight for both of us," Tanya said.

Leaving behind jobs in hospitality and banking to join the mining industry in 2008, Grant said he could never have imagined how far he could go.

"The training BHP has provided us has been fantastic, especially in the past six months transitioning to our new positions as supervisors with OS," Grant said.

“In our new roles, we’re looking forward to working with people to create a team that focuses on goals and succeeds together.”

Tanya and Grant recently made a move to Moranbah in Central Queensland to be closer to work, a work-life balance decision that includes two very important pooches.

"We moved from Brisbane to Moranbah to avoid the travel of fly-in fly-out (FIFO) and be home with our two dogs, Molly and Gracie," Grant said.

"Tanya and I are based at different mine sites, but have the same roster of seven-on seven-off, so we're able to spend our week off together.

"Since the big move, we've been busy seeing family who live nearby and experiencing all that Moranbah has to offer; it's a great town!

"We love to get out on the paddleboards, and plan to buy a caravan so we can see more of Queensland," Grant said.
