BHP Petroleum Australia has committed $3.7 million over the next five years to continue its Ningaloo Outlook partnership with the CSIRO.

Established in 2015, the Ningaloo Outlook (formerly known as the Ningaloo Reef Research and Conservation Project) aims to gather new information and data on marine flora and fauna – including shark and turtle populations, shallow and deep water reef habitats and provide education opportunities for local communities.

 Petroleum Australia Country Manager Graham Salmond said Ningaloo Outlook partnership is one of BHP’s signature environmental programs and Petroleum’s largest community investments.

“As operators in this unique area of the world, it’s important for us to recognise the significance of Ningaloo Outlook to increase awareness of the Reef’s ecological and economic values,” Graham said.

“Ningaloo Reef is home to many ocean wonders and is an asset for the local and national community.

“Our partnership with CSIRO, allows us to bring real-world science to hundreds of school students and local community groups. It is a real tangible way to deliver learning opportunities and increase awareness of the reef.

“I look forward to sharing more outcomes and community engagements that evolve from this partnership over the next five years.”
