BHP Billiton helping KidSport Saskatoon involve more youth in organised sport

This year, young people in the City of Saskatoon and the surrounding area will be participating in organized sport thanks to a C$25,000 donation from BHP Billiton.

This donation was provided to the Saskatoon chapter of Kidsport – a not-for-profit organization that provides financial assistance for registration fees and equipment to youth aged 18 and under – by BHP Billiton’s Potash Community Development Program as a Health & Wellness initiative.

“This donation means so much more than youth participating in sports” said Chris Ryder, Head of Corporate Affairs for BHP Billiton Potash. “Through these activities, these young people will continue to lead healthy lifestyles while developing their skills in the areas of teamwork, leadership and most importantly, having fun”.

Through a confidential application process, KidSport provides grants based upon need. These grants aim to remove financial barriers that prevent families from participating in organized sport.

“KidSport Saskatoon would like to thank BHP Billiton for this generous donation,” said Shannon Hanson, Chairperson of KidSport Saskatoon. “We believe that by supporting children in their desire to participate in organized sport we are not just developing athletes, we are developing future leaders. Without the support of community partners like BHP Billiton this would not be possible”.
