BMA extends education partnerships to help Moranbah and Dysart students succeed

The sky will be the limit for students from Moranbah and Dysart State High schools with the recent renewal of two major BMA educational partnerships.

This week BMA and Moranbah State High School (MSHS) celebrated a three year extension of the successful BMA supported “Pathways for Diverse Futures” Program.

Industry, community and school representatives attended the official launch in Moranbah.

The partnership between BMA and MSHS will provide funding for a Careers Transition Officer and a Development Manager for the Coalfields Training Excellence Centre.

The ongoing support is recognition of the positive impact that these career support roles have brought to Moranbah students providing high quality training and careers transitioning to students from the school.

BMA Caval Ridge Mine General Manager, Alisdair Gibbons, who attended the launch event, said BMA was proud to be able to announce a further three year continuation of the program.

“This partnership is all about building communities that are strong and self-sustaining, to ensure the next generation will have the skills and education they need to prosper”, he said.

Moranbah State High School Principal, Scott Whybird said “The partnership between BMA and MSHS is critical to the development of opportunities, not only for the school students but for the members of our community”.

“MSHS and BMA have had a long relationship that has proven to produce outstanding outcomes for local students and the community and this partnership has been recognised regionally through MSHS winning the Community Partnership division of the Central Queensland Showcase Awards,” Mr Wybird said.

At the recent Dysart State High School Industry evening BMA and the school celebrated the renewal of their Trade Training Manager Partnerships and Curriculum Enhancement Programs.

The program renewal will result in additional staffing at the school including teacher aides, leadership and vocational education in the region, the ongoing delivery of TAFE based programs associated with a variety of trade and engineering programs for senior students and the provision of cultural experiences in the arts at the school.

Dysart State High School Principal, Catherine Rolfe said that BMA continued to support the school and the wider community through the renewal of the partnerships.

“We are very grateful and excited that our partnership agreements have been extended for another three years, with BMA remaining committed to our school and our students, we are able to continue to succeed in delivering solid outcomes for our students”, she said.

Zane West, Manager of Production at Saraji Mine announced the partnership renewal. He said BMA was keen to continue to support ongoing growth and development of students through regionally based educational facilities that support pathways to employment beyond graduation.
