What tests and pre-screening activities will I have to do?

We might ask you to do a video interview and some abilities testing online. To get you ready for this, we’ll send you an email with instructions and practice tests. Make sure you read all this information carefully and always do the practice video questions and tests so you know what to expect and have the best chance of success.

What if I'm working on site and cant do the testing on time?

Our advice is to do the pre-screening activities as soon as you can, however we understand that people have rosters and other commitments that might delay this process.

You can contact us (https://www.bhp.com/contact-us/) to let us know about any delays or issues you may be having in completing this testing.

I've never done a video interview before and am feeling a little nervous. What should I be worried about?

There’s nothing to worry about. Check what your camera is going to see, and test your microphone and sound. Allow yourself plenty of time, relax as much as possible and remember you are just talking about yourself and your experience. It’s in our best interest for you to do well so we will be helping you succeed as much as we can.

What technology will I need to get set up and what happens if I can’t connect or drop out half-way?

A fully charged phone, smart device or computer is all you need to get started. Earphones with a microphone are often better for sound quality. We know that sometimes technology can let us down. If that happens, don’t worry, we will work on either switching to a different method or rescheduling.

What should I wear to a virtual interview or engagement centre?

Wear the same attire you would for a face-to-face interview. Smart-casual is fine with us.

What questions should I be prepared for?

We’d like to know why you’ve applied for a particular role. At BHP, our values and our purpose are extremely important to us. These can be found on our website, and we recommend you think about how these resonate with how you like to work and be treated before you meet us.

When is the best time to discuss salary?

We can give you an indication of your potential salary with us from our first conversation with you.

Is flexible working available to all BHP employees?

Yes, however each request will be considered individually.

At what stage of the application process is it appropriate to discuss flexible options?

Right from the start. You can note on your application and also let us know when we interview you. You will not be disadvantaged in the recruitment process for asking about flexible work options.

Does working for BHP mean I have to work a Fly In Fly Out roster?

The majority of our roles are based on our operational sites. There are many different ways to reach them, with FIFO being just one option, and this can be discussed in your interview.

Does BHP promote from within the organisation?

Yes. We value developing our people and promoting from within and always seek strong internal candidates for any available roles. However, we also welcome external applicants who can add functional depth and diversity to our workforce.
