Corporate Tax Inquiry

Today the Senate Economic References Committee released BHP Billiton’s response to questions on notice at the Corporate Tax Avoidance Inquiry held on 10 April. 

BHP Billiton is proud of its significant contribution to the Australian economy as the country’s largest tax payer. With around 123,000 employees and contractors worldwide, the Company makes a significant contribution to the Australian economy – last year this equated to around A$27 billion including payments to suppliers, wages and employee benefits, dividends, taxes and royalties.

Last financial year we paid more than US$8 billion in taxes and royalties in Australia delivering an effective tax rate of more than 45 per cent.
