What is your name and job title?
Jamie Pini, MEM Eastern Boilermaker at Yandi in Western Australia. I am also a mental health advocate.
How long have you worked for BHP?
Six months.
What does a typical day at BHP look like for you?
A typical day in the workshop can vary each day from general boilermaker duties like machine repairs, crack repairs, on site fabrication, GET replacement or even in field breakdowns.
What’s your favourite thing about working at BHP?
The best thing about working at BHP is the people and the onsite culture at Yandi.
What is something you think people would be surprised to know about BHP?
100% the opportunities they can give you to grow in your career, and try new things to develop new skills.
What are you most proud about working for BHP?
I’m proud to work for people and a company that are allowing me to share my story and hopefully help others live a happier and healthier life.
In the last six months, what’s been your or your team’s greatest achievement?
My biggest achievement so far was with the help of other members of the MEM team, we were able to get Julian Pace and Robbie Figg from Happiness Co onsite to deliver FIFO Happiness workshops and spread the importance of having a good mental health toolbox.
What are you passionate about when you’re not at work?
I’m now an ambassador at Happiness Co which is absolutely amazing to be a part of a team that is making a positive impact in the world. I’m working to deliver my lived experience story and share it across different platforms like Happiness Co events, local clubs and on site at Yandi. Sharing my message and having an impact on just one person is a win in my eyes. My big goal/dream is to show that vulnerability is courage not a weakness.
What are your three big FIFO happiness tips?
- Communication: Be open and honest first with yourself and with your team on how you are mentally travelling. Find someone you feel safe to open up to if you are struggling.
- Routine: Find a good morning routine and start the day off with the little wins. Cold Shower, affirmation cards, stretching, make the bed and healthy diet.
- Gratitude: This is my biggest tip - be grateful, even if you have a tough day, find three things to be grateful for. Write these down in a diary daily or share with your family.
