Supporting the workforce today, for what’s next.

Get the facts on how we will support our workforce for when BHP ceases mining at Mt Arthur Coal.

There are many support avenues that are available now to the Mt Arthur Coal workforce. In 2024, we launched the Workforce Transition Support policy, an all-encompassing policy for how BHP will support employees as a part of our closure.

What are you doing to support Mt Arthur Coal workers?

Our employees have access to opportunities to upgrade their skills and training and career coaching to support them in developing new career pathways. We also provided free financial planning support from April 2024 to July 2026 to help our workforce plan and prepare.

There is a very human element to closing the mine in 2030…it’s very important to make sure that the people here are set up for success, so when they do have to leave Mt Arthur, they’ve got a positive future.

Darryl Messenger General Manager

Yes! As part of the Workforce Transition Support policy, employees can upgrade their skills or training with any course or education program that is a Nationally Recognised Training (NRT) program, and BHP will cover the costs of the course.
