BHP diversity initiative awarded inaugural prize

BHP’s Gender Equity Network (GEN) was awarded the Michael Parker Gender Inclusion Award at the 2024 Chamber of Commerce and Industry WA Diversity and Inclusion Awards.

The awards aim to shine a spotlight on the businesses and individuals who have gone above and beyond to create workplaces that foster collaboration, creativity and equity.

By recognising their accomplishments, the awards aim to inspire others to embark on their own journeys towards building diverse and inclusive workplaces that empower every individual to contribute their best for WA.

GEN is BHP's Perth-based employee resource group designed to support women and gender diverse colleagues at BHP in Western Australia with their development and careers.

The group provides a network where women and gender diverse colleagues can feel connected and supported and provides valuable advice, mentoring, development, and inspiration for the advancement of careers and work life balance.

GEN Vice President Joanna Harrison said: “While we don't do this work for external recognition, employee resource groups at BHP like GEN, Jasper, Amber, EmbRace and many more are the backbone of BHP's inclusion and diversity.

“We couldn't do this work without the support of our internal BHP sponsors, which has included WA Iron Ore, Technology, Commercial, Marketing, Major Projects, and Maintenance Centre of Excellence, to name a few.

“And of course, thank you to our cohort for showing up for inclusion, your own career development, and your community. Without your support and feedback, GEN wouldn't be here today.”

BHP’s Thriving Futures Partnership, an initiative designed to set a new standard for childcare in the Pilbara, was also recognised as a finalist in the Community and Social Impact category.

BHP is incredibly proud of the ongoing work our teams do to support greater diversity and inclusion in our workplaces and communities.
