Movember called and we answered

After a month of growing moustaches, hosting events and having plenty of conversations around men’s health, the tally is out: BHP has raised over A$483,000 across our global operations, topping the funds raised from last year. Every dollar raised was matched through our Matched Giving Program.

Thank you to all 551 individuals across 78 teams who participated in Movember!

In true hairy spirit, our teams pulled out all stops to do their part for men’s health through a diverse and creative range of activities, including the ice hockey game in Jansen and the big moustache light-up at our Perth office, which have become Movember staples.

Big congratulations to our top-performing teams:

Team Jansen (over A$115,000)

BHP Copper SA (over A$89,000)

BMA Blackwater Mine (over A$36,000)

BHP WAMP (over A$28,000)

BHP South Flank (over A$22,000)

Taking the top spot on the individual leaderboard was Ryan Sharp from our Olympic Dam operations in South Australia, who raised more than A$21,000 – more than double his fundraising goal of A$9,000.

Following behind was Darrell Newsome, also from Olympic Dam, having raised over A$18,000 – both Ryan and Darrell celebrated with an on-site “Mo and mullet shave-off" at the end of November – and 14-year Mo Bro Maury Simoneau with more than A$15,000.

As part of this year’s challenge, we also moved a whopping total of 27,771km. This includes the distance covered during our BHP Mo-vement Global Relay, where 192 participants around the globe – from the desert in Tuscon to the streets of Singapore, to the prairies of Saskatoon to the rivers in Australia – took on the virtual baton over 168 hours of non-stop Mo-ving!

All funds raised will allow the Movember Foundation to continue supporting groundbreaking medical research, cancer tests, treatments and important mental health interventions targeted at men’s health. Learn more here.

BHP is proud to support the Movember 2023 campaign for the eighth year running.

Your effort and dedication have been phenomenal. See you next year!
