Congratulations to BHPs newest John Monash Scholar

The General Sir John Monash Foundation has announced its new scholars for 2023, including the BHP John Monash Scholar Nicholas Maurer.

Described as humble, delightful and deeply committed to his science, Nicholas Maurer is a graduate physicist and engineer who wishes to complete his PhD in Applied Mathematics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Nicholas is passionate about energy and education and aspires to make a difference in both fields with a focus on future decarbonised energy systems – a topic he has already published an award-winning paper on.

The John Monash Foundation is Australia's most prestigious overseas study program and BHP has been a partner of the foundation since 2012.

Congratulations to Nicholas on becoming BHP's John Monash Scholar for 2023.

There are many synergies between the social value ambitions of BHP and the aspirations of the John Monash Scholars, and we look forward to learning more about Nicholas’ work focussed on decarbonised energy systems.

A formal ceremony to announce Sir John Monash scholarship winners will be held by the Governor General at Government House in Canberra in March 2023 and we look forward to formally acknowledging all scholarship recipients at this event.

John Monash Scholarships are postgraduate scholarships awarded to outstanding Australians with leadership potential who wish to study overseas.

To date, John Monash have awarded 233 Scholarships to citizens who have gone on to study in the fields of health and medicine, engineering, science, fine arts, education, law, political theory, business, entrepreneurship and much more.
