Social value in action Peru

At BHP, social value has been essential to our strategy and an enabler of our Purpose since 2019.

Bringing people and resources together to build a better world is at the heart of our exploration activities.

And, in our search for the essential commodities the world needs, we are exploring some of the most remote corners of the world.

Like southern Peru – home to the Chanka-Quechua people.

At more than 4,000 meters above sea level, the terrain is mountainous and geographically remote. These conditions make for tough, technical work that sees our team away from home for long periods.

However, the Chanka-Quechua people welcomed our team into their community – sharing their rich history through song, dance and storytelling.

In this video, our Metals Exploration team share life living in the homeland of the Chanka-Quechua people, and the importance of listening and learning to cultivate partnerships that are built on trust and mutual benefit.
