BHP Billiton is very pleased to contribute C$1 million over four years to the rebuilding of the community hockey rink in LeRoy, Canada, which was destroyed by fire in May 2013.

The rink was home to three minor hockey teams, a women's team, the figure skating club and the 2013 Long Lake Men’s Hockey League champions, the LeRoy Braves. The residents of LeRoy and surrounding towns were devastated to lose such an integral part of the community.

Chris Ryder, Vice President of Corporate Affairs for BHP Billiton Potash, said the company was pleased to support the efforts to rebuild the rink, which also housed much of the community’s hockey history and played a core part in the area’s social life.

“Our commitment to supporting projects that are important to the communities in which we operate is a big part of BHP Billiton, not just in Saskatchewan, but in all of our operating areas worldwide. The LeRoy Rink has been an integral part of the community for years and we are proud to support the 'Raise the Roof' project to rebuild the LeRoy rink. We look forward to continuing to build lasting relationships with our host communities, such as the Town of LeRoy, in the future,” said Ryder.

Brian Thoen, the Mayor of LeRoy, said: “The Community and District of LeRoy gratefully thanks BHP Billiton for their generous donation. This generous donation will help make the LeRoy 'Raise the Roof' project become a reality.”

BHP Billiton’s Jansen Potash Project is situated about 11 kilometres from the Town of LeRoy.
