25 Years, One BHP Singapore: Partnering for Progress in Asia and Beyond
Twenty-five years ago, BHP opened its Singapore office. Today, it is a key commercial, innovation and partnership hub, connecting BHP to customers, markets and partners across Asia and beyond.
The milestone reflects a journey shaped by partnership, innovation and long-term value creation.
A relationship built over decades
BHP’s connection to Singapore dates back to the 1960s, when it supported the country’s infrastructure and industrial development. Opening an office in 2001 strengthened that long-standing relationship.
Singapore’s strategic location, openness to trade and strong business ecosystem made it a natural base for BHP’s growing commercial operations. In 2012, BHP moved its Sales and Marketing headquarters to Singapore, placing the company at the centre of its largest customer region: Asia.
Shaping industries through partnership
Partnership has defined BHP’s Singapore story.
BHP teams have worked with governments, industry, research institutions and customers to solve shared challenges and unlock opportunities. As Chief Commercial Officer Rag Udd said, Singapore is where BHP continues to “partner, innovate and grow”.
In maritime, BHP has supported safer, lower-emissions shipping through trials of biofuels, LNG and ammonia as potential marine fuels, and as a founding member of Singapore’s Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation.
Singapore also supports BHP’s digital and innovation agenda, including collaborations to improve supply chain transparency, traceability and efficiency, and the launch of BHP’s Industry AI Hub.
A hub for innovation and growth
Singapore helps BHP respond to major global shifts, from decarbonisation and digital transformation to changing trade flows and demand for critical resources.
It is also home to BHP’s global potash Sales and Marketing team, supporting the development of a new value chain as production ramps up from Jansen in Canada.
With world-class institutions, strong connectivity and skilled talent, Singapore remains a platform for growth and partnership beyond its shores.
BHP Singapore’s success is underpinned by its people: a diverse, inclusive team that brings together talent from across Asia and the world.
Looking ahead
BHP’s 25th anniversary celebration brought together leaders from government, diplomacy, industry and academia, reflecting the relationships that have shaped its journey.
As global markets evolve, Singapore will remain central to BHP’s commercial activity, innovation and partnerships. The next chapter of BHP’s Singapore story is already taking shape.
