Mt Arthur Coal was pleased to participate in the recent Hunter River Forum organised by the New South Wales Government’s Hunter Local Land Services.

This Forum brought together a range of community members, landholders, stakeholders and experts for a full day forum to explore options for improving the resilience of the Hunter River.

The Forum heard from professional speakers, Elders and Traditional Owners, local community groups and engaged landholders who shared their insights, experience and projects already underway.

Mt Arthur Coal was able to share updates on our very own Mt Arthur Coal Hunter River Rehabilitation Project, which is completing restoration works including weed management and planting in strategically identified zones across an 11km stretch of the river adjacent to Mt Arthur Coal.

In May–June 2026, we planted 8,500 plants along 1.7km of the Hunter River, and by mid-2028, we’ll undertake restoration works on an additional 35.5 hectares along a 4.5km stretch of the river.

All of our restoration works will also include a follow up visit for maintenance until 2030.

Thanks to the organisers and attendees of the Hunter River Forum as it provided a valuable opportunity for many stakeholders to connect and collaborate on improving river health.
