BHP releases its 2026–2030 Chile Indigenous Peoples Plan
BHP has announced its 2026–2030 Chile Indigenous Peoples Plan, a roadmap that will guide the company’s engagement with Indigenous Peoples in the territories where it operates, strengthening an approach grounded in respect, participation and good faith.
The Plan incorporates the voices of Indigenous Peoples living near BHP’s operations in Chile, as well as input from Indigenous organisations, academia, authorities and other stakeholders across the local ecosystem. Its objective is to advance long-term, transparent and mutually beneficial relationships, aligned with Chilean legislation and international standards on human rights and Indigenous Peoples.
With a five-year term, the Plan is structured around four strategic pillars: community governance; transparency and participation; employability and economic empowerment; and strengthening cultural heritage. Each pillar includes workstreams aimed at building capability, improving access to opportunities, protecting cultural heritage and supporting informed participation in processes that are important to Indigenous Peoples.
Implementation of the Plan includes governance, monitoring and accountability mechanisms, including the creation of an Indigenous Advisory Panel and regular progress updates through different channels. In this way, BHP reaffirms its commitment to engagement with Indigenous Peoples, strengthening an approach grounded in respect, participation and good faith.
