BHP Billiton employees Dannielle Dendle from Peak Downs mine and Marianne Finch from Saraji mine were recently recognised by the Queensland Resources Council for their respective achievements in the industry at the Resources Awards for Women.

The Awards acknowledge and promote the contribution and achievements of women in the minerals and energy sector while advocating the industry as a career for women. The awards also provide female role models and ambassadors for the sector.

Dannielle won the Exceptional Young Woman in Queensland Resources with Marianne winning the Outstanding Queensland Tradesperson, Operator or Technician category.

“To be recognised among so many remarkable women is truly an honour,” said Dannielle on the award. “We’ve come a long way in a few short years, but we’ve got a long way to go.”

Other nominated finalists included:

• Melanie Gordon in the Exceptional Woman in Queensland Resources category,

• Caroline Dobson, Erin Martins and Karen Nye in the Outstanding Queensland Tradesperson, Operator or Technician category,

• BMC for its ‘Excellence in Diversity’ programs and ‘Performance for its Apprentice and Trainee’ program,

In addition, BHP Billiton was announced as the Founding Partner for the Women in Mining and Resources Mentoring Program 2016 – 2020.
