BHP Billiton Contribution to Water Park at Elizabeth Quay

BHP Billiton has committed A$10 million to develop the BHP Billiton Water Park; a free, community space to be built at Perth’s riverfront Elizabeth Quay development.

Plans for the BHP Billiton Water Park were unveiled at the site today by BHP Billiton Iron Ore President, Jimmy Wilson, WA Premier, the Hon. Colin Barnett and Minister for Planning, the Hon. John Day.

Mr Wilson said BHP Billiton was proud to be partnering with the WA State Government to deliver this iconic project for the Western Australian community.

“Elizabeth Quay will be a landmark development that will change the face of Perth and open up the riverfront for more people to enjoy,” he said.

“The BHP Billiton Water Park will provide an outdoor space in which people can meet, gather and socialise in a family-friendly setting for many years to come.

“Investing in this new development is our way of giving back to the people of Western Australia, who have supported our operations for more than forty years.”

The BHP Billiton Water Park will include an interactive water feature which can operate in different modes, including water jets, misting and reflective ponds.

The park will also have amphitheatre-style shaded seating and palms that reflect the history of Riverside Drive.

The BHP Billiton Water Park can be used as a flexible event venue that can hold up to 800 people without water.

The BHP Billiton Water Park will open for use in Spring 2015. The Company is currently the only corporate investor in community infrastructure at Elizabeth Quay.

BHP Billiton’s investment was made possible through its Community Development Program, which has contributed more than $275 million over the past five years to health, education, Indigenous development and community infrastructure initiatives in Western Australia.
