BHP Billiton’s outstanding marketing performance was recognised earlier this year with the company receiving the “Supplier of Year” award from Korea’s largest steel making company POSCO.
Chairman and CEO of POSCO Mr KT Lee presented the award to BHP Billiton Marketing Director Carbon Steel Materials Mr Andrew Offen in Seoul.
Mr Offen said the award followed the introduction of the Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) process by POSCO in 2003, which featured quarterly reports to suppliers outlining areas where performance has improved or declined.
“We are extremely proud to have received this award from one of our most important customers,” he said.
“It is recognition of BHP Billiton’s continued focus on meeting the needs of its customers and commitment to continuous improvement.”
POSCO operates the Pohang Works in Pohang City and the Gwangyang Works in Gwangyang City, South Korea. It is one of the world’s leading steel companies with annual production in excess of 30 million tonnes of crude steel.
