For the first year, BHP was proud to attend and sponsor the Canadian Western Agribition, one of the largest livestock and agribusiness shows in Canada.
The six-day event hosted in Regina, Saskatchewan goes far beyond livestock shows and rodeos. It serves as a vital forum for education, Indigenous agriculture and business networking. With over 143,000 people attending throughout the week, BHP was immersed in a celebration of Canada’s rich agricultural heritage.
Potash is not only a key ingredient in fertilizers and an essential for increasing crop yields, but also a key ingredient in helping meet the needs of a growing global population. At the Agri-Insights: Breakfast in the Barns hosted by the Regina Chamber of Commerce, Karina Gistelinck, Asset President Potash, delivered the keynote speech, explaining “Jansen isn’t just about mining — it’s about empowering farmers with the tools they need to sustainably feed the world.”
In line with BHP’s dedication to supporting local communities and global food security, Karina, alongside President Minerals Americas Brandon Craig, visited the Regina Food Bank’s unique grocery store-style community food hub on 27 November. In August 2024 BHP invested $350,000 to help support their food sovereignty program and a mural created by Indigenous artist Chanel Yuzicappi from Standing Buffalo First Nation in Treaty 4 Territory.
BHP also contributed to the Indigenous Agricultural Summit as the lunch partner, with Courage Bear, Manager Indigenous Engagement, providing remarks on the Jansen project. The summit, focused on the theme “Nourishing Nations and Empowering Generations,” allowed BHP to further grow its partnerships and explore new opportunities for collaboration. Since 2021 BHP has awarded over $850 million in contracts to Indigenous businesses at Jansen and aims to achieve a 20% Indigenous workforce by the mine’s operational start in 2026.
From Wednesday to Saturday, BHP was also the proud Presenting Partner of the Maple Leaf Finals Rodeo, a premier four-day rodeo event that attracted thousands of attendees and brought an impressive display of athleticism and resilience. From showcasing Jansen’s global impact to engaging with local stakeholders, the Canadian Western Agribition reinforced the belief that sustainable agriculture starts with strong partnerships.
“The event was a great success,” said Brandon Craig. “Agribition highlighted that Saskatchewan agriculture is not just essential to our province—it’s a cornerstone of global food security. With Jansen now over halfway to completion, BHP remains deeply committed to supporting farmers, strengthening communities and ensuring Saskatchewan’s leadership in sustainable agriculture continues to thrive.”
Together with partners like Canadian Western Agribition, BHP is helping build a better future where agriculture continues to flourish and feed communities for generations to come.
