Mental Health America of Greater Houston recently honored BHP with the Ima Hogg Award for outstanding support of mental health and wellbeing in the workplace.
The award, which was presented at MHA’s annual Treasures of Texas Gala on November 7, honors the memory and legacy of the organization’s founder, Miss Ima Hogg, and recognizes those who have impacted the lives of men, women, children and communities and helped advance the cause of mental health.
This year’s event was a celebration of extraordinary leadership in promoting resiliency and workplace mental health. BHP was selected for our efforts to foster an open culture where employees feel safe, valued and supported. They also recognized BHP’s focus on providing programs that encourage employees to address any issues, get help when it’s needed, and eliminate the stigma associated with adverse mental conditions in the workplace.
Resilience has become a major theme for the Houston area following the disaster of Hurricane Harvey in 2017. BHP’s Resilience Program and other resources to support our people’s overall wellness have resonated with MHA the broader community.
MHA explained, “We would like the Houston community to see this and to spread the word because BHP is an example of what corporate support of mental health programming for employees could and should be.”
“We are focused on mental physical, emotional and spiritual health. Those are the kinds of things that we know if we create an environment that is genuinely and caringly focused on those things, it helps all of our people thrive,” said Steve Pastor, President Petroleum. “There’s nothing more important in the world than helping folks live happier, healthier lives."
The honorable Judge Ed Emmett and Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner were also recognized with Spirit of Hope Awards for their contributions to raising awareness and leading initiatives to address mental health crises in the community.
Mental Health America of Greater Houston is the area’s longest serving mental health education and advocacy organization focused on shaping the mental health of people and communities in the areas of children and education, integrated health care, chronic illnesses, women, suicide prevention, and veterans.
