New pavilion opens in the heart of Kalgoorlie-Boulder
For communities to thrive, they need places where people can come together, celebrate, connect and create a sense of belonging. The Goldfields Community Pavilion in Kalgoorlie-Boulder has been designed to do exactly that.
Supported by a $3 million contribution from BHP's WA Nickel Community Fund and delivered in partnership with the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder and Lotterywest, the new all-weather facility provides a flexible space for community events, cultural activities and major gatherings throughout the year.
The Pavilion forms part of the city's growing arts and cultural precinct alongside the Goldfields Arts Centre and was designed with versatility in mind. In everyday use, it operates as an open-air car park, but can be transformed into a fully enclosed, weatherproof venue capable of hosting over 2,000 people.
From markets and festivals to performances, exhibitions, school events and community celebrations, the space will support a diverse range of activities for many years to come.
The community embraced the Pavilion from day one, with more than 1,500 people attending the official opening. Local market stalls, food vendors, live entertainment and family-friendly activities filled the venue, showcasing its potential as a vibrant community hub.
BHP Vice President WA Nickel Annabelle Blom said the project was about creating more than a building.
"This isn't just about infrastructure. It's about creating spaces that bring people together, foster cultural connection and support the long-term liveability of regional communities," Annabelle said.
As a new focal point for community life, the Goldfields Community Pavilion is expected to support social connection, strengthen the local arts and events scene, and help attract larger-scale events to Kalgoorlie-Boulder, creating lasting benefits for the region.
