BHP has contributed C$61,500 toward a new pumper truck for the Village of Jansen and District Volunteer Fire Department, helping strengthen emergency response capabilities across the region and supporting the communities surrounding our Jansen project in Saskatchewan, Canada.

The truck was officially unveiled during the annual Harvest Wind-Up, a longstanding community event hosted by the Village of Jansen and attended by more than 200 residents.

The new vehicle will support emergency response across the department's 840 km² service area, providing firefighters with enhanced capability to respond to fires, vehicle incidents and other emergencies.

Matthew Herbers, Lead Emergency Management at BHP, said supporting local emergency services is an important part of building strong communities.

"Volunteer firefighters play an important role in keeping communities safe. The ability to respond effectively in an emergency depends on having the right tools available at the right time," he said.

Herbers understands those challenges firsthand. In addition to his day job, he serves as a volunteer Fire Chief in his home community.

"This new truck will help firefighters continue providing critical emergency response services across the region for years to come and reflects our commitment to supporting the communities where our employees live and work."

Our support for local fire safety extends beyond the pumper truck. In 2018, we invested C$30,000 in the Saskatchewan Fire Association Fire Safety Educational Trailer, an interactive mobile classroom designed to teach children about fire prevention and emergency preparedness. The trailer was also on display during the event.

“Through strong community partnerships with organizations like BHP, we’re able to protect, support, and serve Jansen and our surrounding neighbors for years to come," said Landon Schindel, Jansen and District Fire Department Fire Chief. On behalf of the Jansen and District Volunteer Fire Department, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to BHP for their support in keeping our community and active fire zone safe.”

Since 2016, we have invested more than C$61 million in initiatives focused on safety, education, health, Indigenous partnerships and community development. As our Jansen project prepares for first production in mid-2027, BHP continues to work alongside local partners to support initiatives that improve safety, strengthen community resilience and create lasting benefits for the region.
