Building more than a mine at Jansen
The opening of the Muenster Cooperative Childcare Center marks the completion of partnerships that have collectively created 163 childcare spaces in east-central Saskatchewan, providing more options for families and supporting the services communities need to grow.
The Muenster centre was celebrated with community leaders, families, project partners and supporters who helped bring the vision to life.
“Throughout my career, I have lived and worked in remote communities, and as a mother of two daughters, I know firsthand the challenges many parents and caregivers face in finding reliable childcare close to home," said Ann Glover, General Manager Operations Potash, BHP.
"Access to childcare is not just a nice to have, it is essential for families, workforce participation, and long-term community growth.”
Access to quality childcare plays an important role in building strong communities. It helps parents and caregivers participate in the workforce, supports children's early development and contributes to the long-term wellbeing of families.
These projects reflect the importance of strong partnerships and listening to feedback from employees, local governments and communities about the services needed to support regional growth.
"When we think about what partnership means to us, it means so much more than financial support. It means having someone believe in our vision, understand the importance of what we’re trying to build, and stand behind us to help make it happen," said Payton Hinz, President Muenster Cooperative Childcare Center. "Opening a brand-new facility to care for 45 children was a huge undertaking. We had a vision for our community, but bringing that vision to life wouldn’t have been possible without the support of BHP."
The Muenster Cooperative Childcare Center stands as an example of what can be achieved when community organizations, governments, volunteers and industry work together toward a common goal.
BHP's Jansen mine in Saskatchewan is expected to become one of the world's largest potash mines. Potash is an essential nutrient that helps improve crop productivity and supports global food security. Through responsible operations, community partnerships and local investment, BHP is committed to creating long-term value for Saskatchewan and the communities surrounding the mine.
