This month, Infrastructure Maintenance Technician, Sean, celebrated his 30 Years of Service at Mt Arthur Coal.

Sean started out at Bayswater Colliery in July 1996 as a tradesperson wearing the iconic ‘Bayswater Blues’.

Billiton had just purchased Bayswater, and a major era of modernisation had just begun.

Sean recalls it was a very traditional mine when he first started.

“We were one large team with a broad scope of work; northing went off site to be repaired, everything was repaired in-house,” Sean said.

Sean reflects that one of the biggest changes during this time has been the increased focus on safety, with plenty of safety systems introduced since he began.

Sean said he has enjoyed passing his skills and knowledge onto other tradespeople and apprentices, and watching them develop into tradespeople, supervisors and superintendents, and insists there’s always plenty to learn if you pay attention.

“Extract as much information as you can out of your work colleagues because there are always many ways to complete complex jobs,” he said.

Outside of work, Sean enjoys riding motorbikes, fishing, looking after a rural property and spending time with his family and friends.

Congratulations on this incredible milestone Sean! Thank you for your loyalty, hard work and the many contributions you’ve made over the past three decades.
