Escondida has proudly launched "Memories of MinerAs," a groundbreaking book that narrates the transformative journeys of 16 female workers within the company. This unpublished work captures the personal and professional growth of these women as they took on roles as operators and maintainers at Escondida. The book serves as an inspiration for other women considering a career in the mining industry, highlighting the potential for change and empowerment.

"Memories of MinerAs" celebrates the successes of the "Mineras Community," a program designed to foster female participation in the mining sector through empowerment, skill development, and training in traditionally male-dominated roles. Since its inception, the Mineras Community has grown to include over 350 women, providing a supportive environment that promotes both professional and personal development. This initiative is an extension of the "Mineras" program, launched in 2017, which aims to train women from the Antofagasta Region and create new professional opportunities for them within the mining industry.

These efforts underscore BHP's commitment to fostering equitable and diverse work environments. By creating spaces free of bias and ensuring equal opportunities for all, BHP aims to lead the industry in female employability. The company’s achievements in gender equality are evident, with women now making up 42% of BHP's workforce in Chile, including in leadership roles, which is more than double the national industry average. This milestone reflects BHP's ongoing dedication to achieving gender balance in alignment with global commitments.
