Port and Rail apprentices ready to embark on big future

We recently welcomed 20 new apprentices into our Port and Rail teams at Port Hedland.

Excited to embark on their mining careers, this year’s intake is a diverse group spanning school leavers through to mature apprentices.

The 2023 apprentices will specialise in a range of trades including Electricians, Mechanical Fitters, Auto-Electricians and HV Mechanics.

Bethany is one of this year’s apprentices who recently graduated from Hedland Senior High School and is excited to start her electrical apprenticeship.

“Having the apprenticeship in Port Hedland means I get to stay in the town that I grew up in,” Bethany said.

“As BHP is a global company there are endless opportunities to move around if you wish.”

Amy Kelly, Apprenticeship Coordinator, said the four-year apprenticeship provides hands on industry-lead training and experience working in a global company and would help them build a career locally or internationally.

“We are focused on training and developing people from Port Hedland and Newman to provide local employment opportunities and support local communities,” Amy said.
