Jasper’s aim is to drive a safe, inclusive and supportive work environment for everyone by providing advice on ways to reduce bias and ensure LGBT+ people are respected and valued irrespective of their sexual or gender identity.
The groups’ name is inspired by the mineral rock Jasper, known for its unique multi-coloured patterns. The classification and naming of Jasper varieties is also known to present a challenge. This characterisation reflects the rich diversity of the LGBT+ community.
Jasper is a unique mineral that is found in Australia and other countries that BHP operates. It is an opaque and fine-grained variety of quartz found in all colours. Like the community Jasper supports, it is a stone of endurance, perseverance, tenacity and shields against negativity. It imparts the courage to speak out against injustice and is a powerful protection stone(1).
