For many First Nations students living in remote and regional Western Australia, getting a quality education isn’t always easy. That’s where MADALAH comes in.
Not just supporting students with scholarships, but building real bridges between where students are today and where they dream of going.
MADALAH offers scholarships to help First Nations students go to high school and university. But it’s about more than just paying school fees. It’s about creating opportunities both in and out of the classroom.
Through partnerships with schools in Perth and across WA, MADALAH helps kids from places like Warralong, Karratha, Carnarvon, and Port Hedland gain access to great education and life-changing experiences.
As General Manager Casey Drummond puts it, “MADALAH is more than just a scholarship. It really becomes a family for these kids. When they’re away from home, we’re here to support them through the ups and downs of life.”
That support makes a big difference. It includes mentoring, leadership programs, and emotional guidance, giving students the confidence to succeed in school, in sport, in culture, and in their communities. Some go on to uni. Others discover talents they didn’t know they had. For many, it’s the first step in a much bigger journey.
And the results? They’re impressive. MADALAH graduates are now working as doctors, engineers, nurses, teachers, lawyers, and even pilots. They’re not just building careers, they’re becoming leaders for the next generation in WA, around Australia, and across the entire world.
A big part of that growth comes from programs like the MADALAH Youth Leadership Summit, which helps students find their voice and take pride in who they are and where they’re from.
It takes a village to raise a child, and that’s why BHP is proud to partner with MADALAH by funding 30 scholarships from Year 7 all the way through to Year 12. That kind of backing ensures students get the long-term support they need to really thrive.
At its heart, MADALAH is about connection. Connecting students to education, to culture, to confidence, and to a future full of possibility. It’s how they’re bridging now to next.
