BHP Petroleum Donates $150,000 to Mexican Red Cross for Earthquake Aid

BHP has donated $150,000 to the Mexican Red Cross to support ongoing aid efforts for those affected by the September earthquakes in Mexico.

Speaking at a ceremony at the Red Cross’ Mexico City headquarters yesterday, Malala Recart, VP of Corporate Affairs at BHP, reaffirmed BHP’s commitment to supporting the Mexican Red Cross’ efforts: “We know that after an earthquake hits, humanitarian effort can take a long time. There are still a lot of things to do, and all of us at BHP want to help.”

Recart also expressed BHP’s pride in being one of the first foreign partners in Mexico’s newly deregulated energy industry. “We are honored to have been chosen by Mexico to undertake this kind of endeavor, and we thank Mexico for welcoming us to be part of your community.”

Geoff Healy, Chief External Affairs Officer at BHP, emphasized BHP’s commitment to forging long-term relationships in Mexico. “What matters to the people of Mexico, matters to BHP.  We are inspired by the deep and enduring national pride we see in Mexico and grateful to be part of its future.”
