It is with great sadness and regret BHP Billiton confirms that a contractor was fatally injured in a traffic accident that occurred in Chile last week.

A contractor-operated bus that was transporting contractors to Escondida was involved in a crash with a truck on a public highway around 950kms away from Escondida.  As a result of the accident, the bus attendant suffered injuries and died at a nearby hospital after undergoing surgery for a broken leg.

We extend our deepest condolences and support to our colleague’s family at this very difficult time.
