Last week, Daunia Mine hosted the Australian Indigenous Education Foundation (AIEF) Indigenous Tertiary Scholars Pathways Workshop.

10 students participated in the session, with the workshop designed to prepare Indigenous Tertiary Scholarship holders to apply for the BHP Internship and Graduate Programs.

As well as hearing about our internship and vacation work processes, students also participated in a number of activities including a Coal 101, tours of the Maintenance Workshop, plant and pit, and a 'Day in the Life' led by Nyah Teiotu, AIEF Scholarship alumni and Daunia Graduate Mine Planning Engineer.
Nyah, who helped arrange the visit, said it was a fantastic opportunity for scholarship holders to experience a working mine site and hear from the people who work there.

"There were 10 current scholars studying all forms of engineering, geology, science, law and health and safety from across the country," Nyah said.

"It was great to have them visit Daunia and I hope it has helped inspire the next generation of Indigenous graduates."

AIEF is one of BHP's Social Investment partners, working to provide scholarships to students and show them the various pathways into our Graduate and Internship programs. BHP also supports AIEF-BHP Tertiary Scholarships for students across a number of disciplines. BHP volunteers have the opportunity to mentor AIEF-BHP students in Perth, as well as AIEF students in Brisbane and Melbourne.
