Adam Lancey, Manager Logistics and Transformation, has won the Gender Diversity Champion Award at the New South Wales Minerals Council’s Women in Mining/Industry and Suppliers Awards last week.
Adam received this award for his proactive approach to gender diversity in his everyday leadership.
Over several years, Adam has employed and promoted several female employees into non-traditional mining roles and supported gender diversity initiatives on site. He has also actively encouraged some of his team members to participate in the New South Wales Women in Mining Network Mentoring Program.
“As a father of two girls, I want to encourage an industry that gives all employees an opportunity to succeed based on individual merit. The mining industry traditionally has a higher proportion of male employees in leadership positions and it’s important that senior male leaders step up and champion change,’ Adam said.
After winning the award, Adam participated in a panel discussion about the value, opportunities and challenges for women working in the mining industry in NSW. He will also go on to represent NSW at the 2016 Women in Resources National Awards in Adelaide in early September.
