BHP Billiton has been shortlisted as a Finalist for the Transparency Award in the Business in the Community Workplace Gender Equality Awards 2016, in recognition of the Company’s approach to the measuring and reporting of gender pay data.
BHP Billiton’s gender pay gap is reviewed regularly to detect any bias and reported annually as part of the Company’s commitment to transparent reporting of progress on its diversity objectives. The data is based on total remuneration, which includes bonuses and other components of pay together with base salary. The gap for the 2015 financial year was three per cent.
Kathryn Nawrockyi, Gender Equality Director, Business in the Community, said: “Congratulations to BHP Billiton on being named as a Finalist in the Transparency Award category at the Business in the Community Workplace Gender Awards 2016. Greater transparency of gender pay information is vital if organisations are to take action and accelerate the pace of change towards gender equality. BHP Billiton offers a great example of how pay transparency can benefit employers and I hope others will follow their lead.”
Athalie Williams, Chief People Officer at BHP Billiton, said: “We’re delighted to have been shortlisted for the Transparency award. At BHP Billiton, we take gender pay bias seriously. We fully support transparent reporting of gender pay gaps as our experience shows items that are measured and disclosed are better understood and acted upon. We aspire to have a diverse workforce at all levels of our organisation. Transparent reporting of information like our gender pay gap is critical in evaluating our progress towards this goal.”
