Together with the Chilean Ministers of Finance, Public Works, and Transportation, Hilmar Rode, President of Minera Escondida, signed an agreement to carry out studies for the implementation and execution of a public transportation and metro cable (aerial tramway) corridor in Antofagasta.
This initiative will improve the quality of life of the most vulnerable community in Antofagasta and will connect the different sectors of the city.
The project will be placed in an area of the city where more than 50% of public transportation travels are concentrated. This is also the area with the biggest gaps in community equipment, public spaces, and access to retail and community services.
This system will be able to transport about 3.000 passengers per hour, substantially reducing travel times in the community and reducing emissions of noise and Co2.
This initiative is an important part of the project portfolio of the CREO Antofagasta Plan.
Minera Escondida is constantly working to be the best strategic partner in Chile through initiatives that help make Antofagasta a better place to live, among others.
