Workforce support creating new career opportunities

Through our Workforce Transition Support Policy, we’re helping our people upgrade their skills with paid training through any nationally recognised training program.

One teammate taking up this opportunity is Lead Training Execution, Emily Ringland, who decided to explore an entirely new career path, enrolling in a Master of Speech and Language Pathology.

Emily said she was grateful for the opportunity to return to study.

“I feel incredibly fortunate to work for a company that supports women in mining and working parents trying to balance it all,” Emily said.

Emily said she her interest in allied health began when her daughter was born with a speech and language disorder.

“Living in the Upper Hunter, I experienced firsthand the challenges of accessing health services, particularly the shortage of allied health professionals,” Emily said.

“Our journey navigating the healthcare system sparked a passion in me to pursue a new career that will make a big difference to our community’s wellbeing,” she said.

Emily acknowledged that returning to study as a mature-aged student could feel overwhelming at first, but she encouraged anyone thinking about it to give it a go.

“Once you find your rhythm, it brings a real sense of purpose and personal growth,” Emily said.

“Learning something new is incredibly rewarding and opens doors you might not have considered before,” she said.

Emily will complete her degree in 2026 and said she was feeling confident about the possibility of transitioning into a different industry if she chooses to take a new career direction.

“Knowing I have options gives me a sense of reassurance and satisfaction with the path I’m on,” Emily said.

Emily, who lives in Scone with her three children and husband, who also works onsite, said it was difficult to image life beyond Mt Arthur Coal.

“After 2030, I hope Mt Arthur is remembered positively—for how our people were supported through the closure, the opportunities that were provided, and the meaningful contributions we made to the community,” she said.
