17122015 - BHP and BMA FY205 Community Contribution Report launch event Mackay

Our contribution to the Queensland communities we call home

Strong partnerships are central to the role BMA plays in delivering steelmaking coal – helping us build a better world right here from Queensland.

BHP and BMA FY2025 Community Contribution Report for Queensland celebrates the people and partnerships behind these achievements, showcasing the real stories, and the lived benefits for local communities.

Traditional Owners, local suppliers, community partners, and regional businesses, supported BMA in FY2025 to continue delivering lasting impact despite the challenges facing the coal industry. Together, we achieved meaningful social, economic, and environmental outcomes for the regional communities where we operate and are proud to be a part of.

Our commitment was visible across every corner of regional Queensland. We supported education and skills development at all stages of learning, provided grants for local events and initiatives, and invested in programs and partnerships that helped build stronger, more resilient communities. These efforts reflect our deep connection to the region and our belief in its future.

BMA’s contributions at a glance in FY2025:

  • $6.4B in payments to suppliers

  • $1.5B in state royalties to the Queensland Government

  • >$100M spent with Indigenous and Traditional Owner businesses

  • >$9M in voluntary social investment

  • >9,000 employees and contractors.

BMA is proud of its long-standing connection to regional Queensland. As the largest private employer and a member of the Bowen Basin community for more than 54 years, we understand the importance of our role in local jobs, families, and supply chains.

Throughout the year BMA stood firmly with communities built on the strength and resilience of the coal mining industry. We thank our partners for your continued support, collaboration, and trust.
