BHP’s Supply Minerals Australia teams have won two major awards at the 2019 CIPS Australasia Supply Management Awards held last week.

The Charted Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) Australasia Conference and Supply Management Awards is the region’s most prestigious conference and awards for procurement and supply chain professionals.

BHP’s Local Buy Program received the Ethical Procurement award, while our Supply Innovation program took out the Supplier Diversity award.

BHP Vice President Business Partnership Minerals Australia, Michael Bailey said it was a wonderful achievement for everyone involved and a demonstration of the quality of work being undertaken within the business.

“The significance of these awards are they represent us setting an industry benchmark,” Michael said.

“It’s a great acknowledgement of our work leading the field in local procurement, supporting local vendors and acting on our social value goals.

“Receiving a CIPS Australasia Award is the most prestigious recognition a company or individual in the procurement and supply chain profession can receive.”

BHP won two awards and placed as finalist for two other submissions.

BHP’s Local Buying Program was recognised for removing barriers for small local businesses working with large companies, while our Supply Innovation program received its award for empowering and leveraging local supplier’s expertise and capabilities.

BHP’s Local Buying Program, delivered by C-Res is a full procurement-to-pay portal which allows small, local eligible businesses and Pilbara Aboriginal businesses to engage with BHP for direct competitive contracting opportunities, valued at less than $US2 million. These businesses benefit from the Local Buying Program’s payment terms of 21 days from receipt of invoice (averaging 15 days at present).
