Entrepreneur in Residence | BHP Accelerator Program

Job Location:                    Australia preferred

Role Type:                          External Consultant / Contractor

Compensation:                 Daily rate

About the Role

Interested in shaping some of the world’s most important start-ups?

We are on the lookout for an Entrepreneur in Residence (EiR) to support start-ups through BHP’s inaugural global start-up accelerator program. The program is focused on solving leading cross-industry challenges by working directly with the founders of emerging technology companies globally. The program will run two cohorts per annum, sequentially. Each cohort will have a specific theme with the first being steel decarbonisation technology. Later cohorts may revisit this theme periodically while also tackling new themes related to energy and resources.

The EiR is one of the most important roles within the Accelerator, providing coaching and hands-on assistance to a cohort of 8-12 start-ups over the course of a four-month program. The Accelerator will run two 4-month programs per year, sequentially, and the EiR will have a larger commitment when the programs are running (8 months per year). Over the balance of the year, the EiR may support the participant selection process and alumni engagement. Overall, we expect the role to equate to approximately 0.5 FTE over a 12-month period

Leveraging their deep technical knowledge and lived experience in working as and/or with start-up founders, the EiR will help participating start-ups stay focused on and achieve their milestones, promoting confidence, leadership, and contributing to start-ups’ increased performance and likelihood of success.

Key activities include:

  • Working closely with the Accelerator leadership team in managing start-ups' progress and challenges and adjusting training program as required.
  • Supporting development and hosting masterclasses/workshops.
  • Providing business development guidance and expertise.
  • Connecting start-ups into their investor network.
  • Supporting the start-up and mentor relationship model.
  • Supporting mentor scouting and onboarding.
  • Support candidate screening (application assessment) and demo-day(s) judging.

Some travel may be required (~2-4 weeks per annum), however costs will be covered by BHP.
