$1 million boost for Pilbara schools

Thousands of students across 10 Pilbara schools will soon benefit from a $1 million investment to improve learning and play spaces. 

From shade sails and upgraded playgrounds to gardens and yarning circles, the new School Site Enhancement Initiative will deliver practical upgrades across schools in Newman, Port Hedland and surrounding communities supporting student wellbeing and connection.   

The investment is being delivered through the Pilbara Education Partnership (PEP), a long-standing collaboration between BHP and the State Government focused on improving education outcomes in regional communities. 

Through this partnership, projects have been developed with schools to reflect what local students and communities need most, with a focus on creating more comfortable, inclusive and easy-to-use spaces. 

Established in 2005, the PEP is the largest collaboration of its kind in regional Western Australia and has supported more than 4,000 students across 15 schools. 

Works are expected to begin on the projects in Term 3.
