BHP Billiton Forum on Corporate Responsibility Members Visit Mariana

Members of BHP Billiton’s Forum on Corporate Responsibility (FCR) will visit the Mariana area this week to gain a first-hand understanding of the impacts of the Fundão tailings dam failure and how Samarco has responded to the accident. During the visit, FCR Members will engage with representatives of the affected communities, local government, Samarco, Vale and the local BHP Billiton team.

Since 1999, the BHP Billiton Forum on Corporate Responsibility has been pivotal in helping BHP Billiton to make informed decisions on a range of sustainability issues and develop appropriate sustainability standards. The Forum is a key component of BHP Billiton’s stakeholder engagement program and is made up of nine highly respected civil society leaders, members of BHP Billiton’s Group Management Committee (GMC) and representatives from BHP Billiton’s Group Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) and Group Corporate Affairs functions.

Through the Forum, BHP Billiton gains insight into current and emerging priorities and engage in rigorous debate on important sustainability issues. This enables BHP Billiton to understand and consider the broader implications for society.
