BHP proudly congratulates Naomi Gianoncelli from Whitford Junior Football Club in Western Australia on being named the 2025 BHP Community Coach of the Year.
Naomi was selected from a strong field of national nominees for her outstanding leadership and commitment to advancing participation for women and girls.
The Award was presented to Naomi at the AFLW Awards on Monday 24 November by Geraldine Slattery, BHP President Australia. This accolade celebrates community coaches who create inclusive and empowering opportunities for women and girls in grassroots football.
“We are proud to congratulate Naomi on this well-deserved recognition, celebrating her outstanding commitment to building a stronger, more inclusive community at Whitfords Junior Football Club.” Geraldine said.
“Naomi’s leadership is a powerful example of vision in action. Her dedication to empowering young women on and off the field mirrors the values we uphold at BHP, creating a workplace where diversity and inclusion are more than goals - they are the foundation for a culture where everyone can thrive.”
“We look forward to seeing the continued impact of Naomi’s work in shaping the future of community sport and inspiring the next generation of leaders.”
Coaching the Under 18 Girls team, Naomi has introduced structured training programs, strengthened support systems for young women transitioning to senior pathways, and driven increased engagement across the club. Her leadership extends beyond the field as the club’s Amateur Liaison Officer, improving connections between junior and senior female programs.
This year, Naomi launched the club’s first “Kick It to Her” education evening, addressing performance, injury prevention, and women’s health - an initiative now set to become an annual event.
Balancing her football commitments with work as an emergency department nurse and raising four children, Naomi exemplifies the spirit of community sport. Her dedication reflects BHP’s values of inclusion and diversity, inspiring the next generation of leaders.
Through our partnership and shared ambitions with AFL, BHP remains committed to creating equal opportunities in sport and business - empowering women and girls to thrive on and off the field.
