BHP Billiton contributes $100,000 to Wynyard Sports Complex

BHP Billiton has contributed $100,000 to the Wynyard Over Time campaign towards the establishment of a sports complex in the Town of Wynyard, Saskatchewan.

The Wynyard Sports Complex will be a year-round facility serving golf, hockey, skating, ball games, kids’ programs and special events. In addition to the contribution from BHP Billiton, the project has received donations from individuals and local businesses, and has raised a total of over $1.7 million dollars. This represents over half of the community fundraising goal.

Chris Ryder, Head of Corporate Affairs for BHP Billiton Potash, said: “We work to support communities by addressing local priorities and needs to improve people’s quality of life. We heard from members of the community that this sports complex is Wynyard’s most important current project. We aim to have a long-lasting, positive impact on the quality of life in the communities that we work in and the Over Time Campaign is our opportunity to have such an impact.”

Ted Czarnecki, Mayor for the Town of Wynyard, said “We are thrilled to have BHP Billiton partner with us on this project to help make it a reality. I am very proud of the volunteers and everyone involved in this campaign to make our community even better than it already is.”

BHP Billiton’s Jansen Potash Project is situated about 50km from the Town of Wynyard.
