BHP Billiton Contributes to Million Tree Target

In line with our commitment to the principles of sustainable development and a high standard of environmental practice, BHP Billiton took part in National Tree Day on Sunday 29 July.

The Melbourne planting took place at our Global Leadership Centre at Aitken Hill. Melbourne employees were joined by volunteers from organisations as diverse as Conservation Volunteers Australia, AMP and the local fire brigade. It took those present about two hours to plant 4,000 trees.

As well as contributing to National Tree Day, the event was used to launch Greening Aitken Hill, an ongoing environment project that enables visitors to help restore native trees and grasses to much of the 42-hectare site.

The Wollongong planting took place at Coomaditchie Lagoon, one of the sites forming part of the Revive Our Wetlands program.
